As millions of us celebrate what’s great about the Australia day long weekend, House Call Doctor’s GPs will be on the road in Queensland and northern New South Wales, making sure anyone who needs access to medical help on the public holiday isn’t left untreated. And they’ll continue to for the entire four day long weekend offering after-hours services when your regular GP is closed.

Australia Day marks an exciting milestone for House Call Doctor. Thanks to the support of the people of Queensland, our company has grown significantly over the past 12 months giving us the ability to operate in more regions and treat more Queenslanders.

  • Townsville
  • Gold Coast
  • Bundaberg

If you’d like to check if your suburb is covered by House Call Doctor, use our suburb locator tool which can be found in the top right corner of our website. Just type in your suburb or postcode to find out if you can make a booking. Our doctors are available from 4pm Monday to Friday, 10am Saturday and 24 hours on Sunday and public holidays.

Chief operating officer Craig Glover said in 2016 House Call Doctor made just over 1,100 house calls over the Australia Day weekend.

“This year our data shows that we’ll be knocking on up to 3,000 doors between Thursday and Sunday,” Mr Glover said.

“Finding a doctor that’s open on a public holiday can often be difficult. That’s why House Call Doctor has GPs on hand so patients don’t have to wait to get treated.

“In most cases, our after hours doctors will arrive in your home within three hours of your call. This ensures that you’ll get the medical assistance you need, even if it’s in the middle of the night.”

House Call Doctor still bulk bills.

Home visits are an essential Medicare service and they under threat. There is pressure on the government to cut Medicare rebates to home visits and reduce the number of after-hours doctors.

House Call Doctor is still a bulk billing service if you have a medicare or Department of Veteran Affairs card.

If you are a visiting overseas student and covered by health insurance from Allianz, Bupa or NIB we do not charge a fee.

Patients that don’t hold a Medicare or DVA card and are not overseas students covered by health insurance can still make an appointment with our after hours service and pay a fee for the appointment.

It’s important that everyone has a regular GP for their ongoing health care. Our service provides after-hours home visits on behalf of your GP. We also provide a follow-up report to them the next day. So if you have a condition that can’t wait over the Australia Day long weekend, and your regular GP is closed, call House Call Doctor on 13 55 66, book online or download our free app.
