Bulk-billing doctors will soon be making house-calls in the Gladstone area as part of the new House Call Doctor service.

A team of local General Practitioners and emergency doctors will be available to all Medicare and Department of Veteran Affairs  (DVA) card holders overnight from Monday to Friday, after midday Saturday on weekends and 24 hours a day on public holidays.

House Call Doctor Chief Executive Wayne Ormond said, “This service will fill a major gap in the health services in the area and save patients with non-life threatening ailments from sitting for hours in Emergency Departments.”

Since launching in the Wide Bay area in April 2015 House Call Doctor has treated more than 3000 patients in their own home at no cost.

“People in Central Queensland often can’t see an after-hours GP when they need to but we’re making regional cities like Gladstone a priority,” said Mr Ormond.

“Other services in the area can charge up to $400 after midnight but we never charge if you have a Medicare or DVA card.”

House Call Doctor will provide patients’ regular GP with all the consultation notes from the visit.
