Toowoomba’s new House Call Doctor service crisscrossed the Garden City last night treating patients from Meringandan to Glenvale.

House Call Doctor Chief Executive Officer Wayne Ormond said doctors were kept busy late into the night treating people with a range of complaints including the flu and gastro.

“We had dozens of patients who were very happy last night because it was freezing cold outside and they were able to stay in the warmth of their home and have a doctor come to them.”

Mr Ormond said doctors on duty were kept busy treating patients of all ages.

“We always make children and the elderly a priority, particularly when it comes to calls at night,” he said.

Mr Ormond said the service can save patients having to make the often difficult decision of either going to the emergency or trying to wait all night to see a doctor the next day.

He said every visit is 100 percent bulk-billed.

“All patients need is a Medicare or Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) card and they see a doctor without being a cent out of pocket.”

House Call Doctor crews work overnight from Monday to Friday from 6pm, after midday Saturday and 24 hours a day on Sunday and public holidays.
