Moving in to Hervey Bay

Doctors have been working around the clock during the Easter long weekend with House Call Doctor treating patients in their own homes as part of a new, after-hours, bulked-billed medical service in Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

Wayne Ormond of House Call Doctor said the business had teams of local GPs and emergency department doctors ready to make an old-fashioned house call to help people when they needed it most – when their doctor was closed.

“House Call Doctor means no more long waits in a hospital emergency room,” he said.

“This service means doctors come to you while you wait in the comfort of your own home and it saves time and money because House Call Doctor visits are 100% bulk-billed.

“There are no surcharges or penalties for calling a doctor late at night.

“Midnight or midday on a weekend, our service doesn’t leave you a cent out of pocket.”

Mr Ormond said House Call Doctor operated weekdays from 6pm to 8am Monday to Friday, midday Saturday through to 8am on Monday and 24 hours on public holidays.

“Not only are people happier because doctors are coming to them, but House Call Doctor visits are taking the pressure off our hospital emergency wards,” he said.

“I understand this is a great relief for local doctors because it means they know their patients have an alternative to waiting in a hospital emergency department.”

Mr Ormond said House Call Doctor records showed up to 90% of patients were seen within three hours.

He said all doctors were chaperoned and medical reports were forwarded to the patient’s regular GP the following day.
