For the first time in the Wide Bay, House Call Doctor has doctors making house calls across Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay.
The after-hours, 100 percent bulk-billed service treated its first patients on the Easter long weekend filling a major gap in health services in the region. Federal Government figures show one in four people in areas like the Wide Bay can’t see a GP when they need to after-hours.
Wayne Ormond of House Call Doctor says that’s changed for the people of Wide Bay. “Some of the other services in the Wide Bay charge $400 for calls after midnight and we never charge if you have a Medicare or DVA card. We always 100 percent bulk bill,” Mr Ormond said.
House Call Doctor operates weekdays from 6pm to 8am Monday to Friday; and midday Saturday through to 8am Monday morning, 24 hours on public holidays.
